Rifugio fratelli Longo

    Zona delle Orobie

    Longo

Longo Hut (altitude: 2026 m) is located just a little off  the paths most traveled by hikers: for this reason it is recommended to those who prefer - in the mountains - a touch of solitude, compared to the most crowded places.
From it, in addition to the classic ascent to Mount Aga (which is also very beautiful and feasible in the day), you can descend Val d'Ambria valley and access the most challenging mountains of this area, or also reach Mambretti Hut  located in “di Scais” valley.
Longo Hut, built by the Bergamo section of CAI in 1923, was
initially dedicated to Calvi brothers and only later to Longo brothers. Because of the war, the small building suffered a gradual deterioration that convinced the section to build a new Calvi Hut, located in the immediate vicinity of Lake Rotondo. At the beginning of the 50s, the Società Alpina Scais of Bergamo asked and obtained from CAI the management of the small shelter. After the reconstruction, it was renamed to the memory of Giuseppe and Innocente Longo brothers, who perished in 1934 while climbing Cervino/Matterhorn.

In the following years, the shelter attracted a growing number of climbers, thus requiring a new closure in order to make some improvements to the old equipment. Due to the popularity of the new hut, in 1985 and 1999 it was enlarged with a new dining room and new sleeping rooms.
