Immediately upstream of "Antonio Baroni al Brunone" Refuge (2295 m), the path climbs to the north, passes a small entrance of an old tunnel (a disused mine) and, later, the large and impressive excavation of a second tunnel. A little further on you reach a little plateau with a lovely pool: you are at Scaletta Pass (2620 m).

    Note

The toponym “Scaletta” (“Ladder”) originates from the fact that, in past times, there were wooden ladders on the north side of the pass. Such ladders facilitate the transit (in the most difficult points) of the miners coming from Valtellina side who worked in the iron mines on the south side (Bergamo). In more recent years, the presence of metal cables before and then chains has accomplished the same function of facilitating the passage (which remains, however, definitely challenging!).
